Answered: Quixel Mixer bugs me crazy - can't save anymore

Hi fellas,
iam a quixel mixer user since about 3 days.Out of the nothing my workfile cant be saved no more.
Quixel mixer just wont write the xml no more.

I constantly download my files (xml;preview.png;and Paint folder) from my NAS/server to my hdd again.

Then iam able to open it again, when i want to resave it shouts at me telling, me some "item cant be found".Or that one message attached..

I have no clue what to do,i even tried to modify the xml.
under that path down there i only see 2 folders .Would apreciate any help here.

Good afthernoon,
During my leaning curve I have come to the part were I need to create a color ID set for characters in 3Ds Max 2017 
 
Folowing the video tutorial on YouTube I go to Utilities -- MAXScript -- Run Script, followed by selecting the MaxRun.ms script to run.

Max then returns an error titled "MAXScript Fileln Exeption" with the content of: 

Runtime error: Traceback (most recently call last):
ImportError: No module named lib

Please tell me how to fix this issue since creating the color ID manually will eat up the time Quixel is saving us.

Unreal Engine 4's Livelink doesn't generate material instances for custom materials created in Mixer, I've tried reinstalling the plugin but that does nothing for me. All texture maps are importing fine, so I've just been hooking everything up manually but after seeing the plugin is supposed to do that automatically it made me think I'm missing something. Am I overlooking something simple or perhaps there's an easy fix for this I'm not aware of? I export all texture maps when saving to the bridge.

Hi,

I'm working with Megascans Unreal 4 Livelink with Unreal 4 version 4.19.2 - When I click on two material instances, as shown in your instruction videos, and click "Create Material Blend", it merely copies the Master Material with the white default tiles and doesn't carry over any other materials selected.

"Reset Selected Type To Default" also does absolutely nothing, as does the "Use Selected Material" button does nothing as well.

Hi, guys. My question is why do i have to learn Quixel if i can do all of the texture painting on a 3D model by simply using Photoshop 3d Menu. And here is even entire course was created by Pluralsight (https://www.pluralsight.com/courses/texture-painting-maya-photoshop-1781) where the tutor textures 3d model entirely in the Photoshop 3D mode, and he still has access to all of the Photoshops brushes, selections and staffs like that. So what benefits gives you Quixel if compare to the Photoshop 3D menu? Tell me in the details, please. Thank you for the answers.

Hi, I'm new to quixel and faced such problem: 3Do window doesn't show any changes on my model when i'm editing something? like color(albedo, gloss, specular - no mattter), any parameters of masks; also, when i'm applying new materials. The only solution - is to mouse click in 3Do viewport to make it work (like refresh).
If i use Photoshop Cs6 - all issues are described higher.
If I use Photoshop 2017 - quixel works as it should, but with a little delay. Nevertheless, when i'm editing masks it still doesn't show any changes until i click.
In both cases, the refresh 3Do button in Ddo doesn't work.
AS i'm new to quixel, maybe there is some setting, which i forgot to activate, something like "auto refresh"?

Quixel 2.3.2, Win 10, core i7 8700k, 16 gb ram

... this is, what I´ve been waiting for a loooong time :)

Mixer and Bridge are really capable applications and even just beta status - GJ on this, guys!
I really enjoyed mixing materials and man - this is what I was hoping Mixer to be. I am not disappointed.

Now - I got som e questions, regarding paid licenses:

Can payment be canceled monthly - or just after 1 Year?
Can I upgrade/downgrad a license?
Does "Freelance" allow to publish/sale landscapes, that contain some 3d Mehses + Textures (among others) from Megascan?
If not - does "indie Game" allow fot this?

First, I just want to make and publish a few personal projects (for my folio), so I think "hobby" should do?
When clients want to have some landscape/scenery exactly made up with some Megascan stuff - I need to switch to "freelance" or "Indie", I guess?

How do you differ tiles on textures?

Hey,

as a newbie I have a question for you.
Of course when I create tilebile textures it repeats and repeats.
Anyway, I always try to conceal this with other objects, e.g. a tree on a meadow.
But after all it often doesn't look good.

Now Quixel publishs the Quixel Mixer and I have seen this impressive video on youtube
in which they create a street quite easily and fast with an impressive result.

But now I ask myself, how can you use that when you create a street like that, but
more like this little part but a full road? I can't imagine what my VRAM says
when I try to make different textures for each road part all with high resolution textures.
Okay, I know what it will say (CUDA has run out of memory) but how would you
make this?

I hope you can help me with this special question.

Is there a characters color and material legend or tutorial resource apart from the official Quixel DDO web-page? We are looking for a scxi-fi military stile uniform. It is extremely difficult to combine the materials in a productive manner without a point of reference. Thank you.

Answered: Mixer and Studio Backwards Compatibility Question

Hey guys, I was wondering if there was any sort of backwards compatibility with Mixer in regards to its previous beta ver. (the one which was still very similar to Studio) or Megascans Studio.
I have quite a few texture projects in Studio which seemed to also work with the early version of Mixer before ver. 2018.1.1 which won't show up when I copy them from the old Projects folder into the new 1.1 folders. I like the fact that this new Mixer coupled with Bridge eliminates the need for having to grab zip files from online and instead functions all within itself, but the new directory setups seem to be different to Studio - does this mean there is no way to load Studio files in Mixer or will I have to keep the other folder setup just for my old Studio files?

Quixel mixer & Bridge + Livelink to Unreal

Greetings.  im having some problems with my bridge from Mixer to unreal ( On trial)


1.when i select my created assets and send then over to Bridge ( it ask´s me to log in , and everything freezes and it never works 
If i press   export in the upper right corner and  press  cancel to login it sends over my mixer maps to unreal. it kind of works. but not realy.


 2.It sends over most of the files to unreal besides the material itself what i get is "master materials" + maps  but i dont get the right setup, so basically i have to use a master material and  copy and phase it to rig up the correct maps to it.  ( there is no point for the love link then)  because i could just  import the maps normal and set up the material.


 It sends over the master material + my maps.) im pretty sure if sopose to create a material that is driven from master materials. tp copy what i created in the mixer.  ( small note if works with things that is downloaded from  archive). But not if i create a custom one .

3 There is no indication the the "live link" is active the icon is not visible in Unreal at all,  tips  from anyone?

Hey Quixel Team,
First of all i'm a huge fan of Megascans and the Mixer! It's just a lot of fun to create new texture variations from existing megascans textures in my library. I'm also a huge fan of megascans decals, which brings me right to my topic, with almost 500 megascans in my library it is easy to loose the overview of all the scans i have alreday bought. So It's not untypical to buy kinda similiar or different variations of a scan i alreday own, which is not a problem at all for me. But buying bascially two times the same decal, which was obviously just slightly changed, is not really cool. In my option it is even slightly questionable to put like two times the same decal for sale on the shop.

The second is kinda the "original", the first one is clearly the same just with some deleted parts. I mean this is something we all can do by our self by just painting over the alpha channel. Where is the point to have basically two the same decals in the megascans shop ?






Quixel Suite - Crashes whilst saving

Hello,

I am having this issue which started today where Quixel Suite crashes when I am saving a project. I makes it right to the end only to crash. It only does it to some of my projects, usually the more complex ones. If anyone has come across this issue before or has any help on how to solve this then it would be very much appreciated. I have tried looking for answers but have yet to find anything regarding the issue.

Answered: High poly Low poly - Albedo projection?

Simple scenario:
  1. High poly mesh contains UVs with associated normal map and albedo map
  2. Retopo to low poly mesh
  3. How to get normal map and albedo map from high res to fit retopo (low) mesh?
This is a departure from the conventional workflow - bake high poly down to low poly, then texture. However, it is happening a bit in reverse in this case.

So last night I was texturing a character for a game, and left some work for today. This morning I open the saved project and the albedo and normal materials load fine, but the metalness and roughness tabs are empty, I dont seem to find any way of bringing them back. The textures that were exported on save are black when opened with photoshop. Any help?

Hi, is there a way to sync the Bridge library with quixel suites library?
For me bridge extracts all zips and seems to delete the zip after, and it seems rather odd that you would need to have to import them into Qsuite manually and end up with 2 library's taking up twice the space.
Or is there an alternative method to "import MS asset" in the suite?
