Hi Guys,

So I have started to play around with quixels mixer. Tested it out with a roadside environment I planning to make. I downloaded a few different things from the megascans library. Road surface, pothole decals, painted lines and a few other things you would see on a road. The problem I'm having is that mixer is not seeing any of the decals at all. The only thing I can see is #surface assets. I can't see decals at all inside mixer even though I have downloaded. What am I missing here? I would also point pot that I see less buttons in the "add" area. Than I seen on most ofthe tutorials I've seen.

Hey guys and gals. I keep running into this random annoying problem where QUIXEL does not import my custom standard Material I created properly. 

Steps: Clicked Add Material > Custom Materials > Choose material. 
Expectation: Custom Material will be add to the scene and texture will be visible. Simple.
[Bug]: Pattern Overlay as a Layer Style effect is not created as it should. Instead it's just a 'Solid Color' layer with a the Reflectance Color. (Fig. 1)
What I should be getting is this..... (Fig. 2) 


I've tried creating my custom standard material with different file formats.. .png, .tif, .jpg, ect. Same result. 
Any ideas what could be happening?

Answered: Issue with not seeing painted mask (Dynamask Full Shaded Mode) in Photoshop

Hello everyone. The issue i'm experiencing is what I paint a mask using Dynamask, whatever I paint stays in Dynamask. I cannot see or edit the mask outside of it. If i create a custom mask in PS (without painting in Dynamask) it works fine. I can still go back and edit it no problem. I like using the Marquee tool to create clean crisp selections for masking purposes. Currently, - (since it's black and i can't see my painted mask ) i'm forced to use the paintbrush in Dynamask if i want to tweak anything.

What can i do to edit the Painted mask outside of Dynamask? Gracias!

Texturing Noobie - Can Someone Help Me Identify What's Going On Here?

I'm completely clueless when it comes to texturing pipeline, and unfortunately every tutorial I can find (Quixel or otherwise) is tech-specific (they explain the software, not the craft of UV'ing). I was hoping someone could at least help me put a word to some of these issues so that I can Google them further.

My pipeline:

  1.  Model in C4D (gave up on Fusion360 since UV mapping is really difficult without retopologizing to quads).
  2. Bounce to Unfold3D using the C4D Plugin
  3. Unwrap UV > Export as normalized .obj "with UV embedded" since it doesn't carry the UV back over into Cinema using the plugin for some reason.
  4. Import .obj into C4D, assign color IDs, bake textures, export Color IDs, AO, and Normal maps @ 4096 x 4096 16-bit PNGs, no pixel border. Export model as .FBX (2014).
  5. Import everything into Quixel. 4096 x 4096, bake curvature maps checked.

1) My models have weird mismapping (?). It changes as I move the light source around, and it always occurs on two adjacent edges but not the opposing sides. My UV, Color ID, AO, and Normal maps are all clean from edge to edge, but I get this weird backlight when viewed in PBR mode.


2) I'm getting strange artifacts on chamfered edges. It looks like weird twisting/projection mapping. Again, I only see this in PBR mode.


3) Certain flat surfaces have weird patterns to them. Edge wear is occurring in the wrong place. Part of me thinks this isn't due to my UV map because it's absent in other maps. I'm only seeing this weird masking in albedo and specular layers. Even then - why is this only happening to certain faces and not all faces?

I have an issue I make my textures on Quixel DDO and when I export to UE4 they look way different like completely different materials, either way too shiny or super washed out white, is there a setting to change or is it normal?

UE4 - it looks like a super shiny metal almost like a mirror. and other metals like the yellow bar is also way too shiny.

Not sure if this is the right place but i noticed a bug in the mixer app.. Not sure if this also happened with the old version of the mixer cause i just noticed it today after i installed the new mixer version.

After downloading this material  https://megascans.se/assets/sfkkddya  manual and also with the bridge app, it wont show up in the mixer, i had to manually import the scan as a zip through mixer. There are also a view other scans with the same issue... I mean its not really a issue but with over 370 scans right now in my library it's easy to over see bought but not showing up scans in mixer.

Looking to buy the commercial licence. We are currently using Suite 2.3.2 demo version                                                                                                                       install on laptops dell inspiron 15 7000 with i5 and Nvidia 1050 16g DDR4 / Photoshop CS6 v 13.0.1 x64. The NDO Window does not popup the tools like it is presented on tutorial  "Quixel SUITE 2.0 Workflow Primer" . The rest of the Suite so far works fine except for some bugs we have notice but nothing mayor. HELP... Do we need to rollback the Suite version and try again? Our antivirus is McAfee and we added all the exception. All apps running as administrator. We are forcing all the tools to use the Nvidia card. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

In the Teddy's video we can see that he duplicate a layer directly inside quixel mixer. What is the shortcut he use to do that ? I've tried tons of way.

Couldn't find.

Testing out the new Quixel Mixer.  I have been doing some testing of the new Quixel Mixer. I created a Concrete Material. Its very easy and straight forward. I find that I could create decent materials quickly. I see some limitation with create something completely custom like Substance Designer. But the way it makes materials is fast because of Megascans. It has alot of power that way. Plus those materials also can be used in Unreal of Unity quickly because of the build in app as well as Megascans library assets.  https://www.artstation.com/artwork/oLXzq

fairly straight forward. Can the 3D plants from megascans be made to work with the wind actor in ue4? Can I somehow import them into SpeedTree and then export to ue4 with wind data?

Megascans Bridge Unity Live Link bug - not completely importing 3d assets

Hey all I am trying to use the megascans bridge  live link with unity.  I have followed the instructions as per this video:
image - namely, i have the latest version of bridge, 2.2.45,  and i have imported the unitypackage so I have the quixel.megascans editor thing installed in my unity project. 

When I import a 3d asset from bridge,  it copies the materials and the albedo and metallic texture, and creates a material, but it is missing the normal map and any other textures.  It is not importing  any fbx files, and there are no prefabs being created.



My download settings and export settings in bridge all look correct.  It has downloaded all of the files and they are in my megascans library folder, but  the live link importer is not completely importing the fbx files and creating prefabs.

I have tried using the different settings available in the megascans editor window - i changed the shader type to all of the different options, still does not import any fbx files or create prefabs.

Megascans bridge was indicating that the export was successful each time for the 3d assets.  At one point when i was trying to import a seaweed atlas,  it did say import failed and told me to check an error log, but i have no idea where the log is located.

any help would be appreciated, thanks~

Exporting multiple LODs to ue4 from bridge

The LOD exporting for UE4 seems strange to me.

I cannot export multiple LODS as one mesh asset and the mesh that gets created always imports materials as new.

I would expect that i can export multiple LODS and that the mesh would contain those LODS within its settings.

Maya 2018 - Megascans bridge FBX errors

I just updated to the latest version of bridge having not used it for a while. I've reconfigured my folder structure and installed the scripts from the resource zip. Shader imports are working fine, atlas imports are working fine but 90% of the time 3D models are met with the following errors. I did manage to import a model in one session and then it refused to work again.

// Error: Use syntax: FBXImport -f "filename" [-t take_index_zero_based] [-e extract_folder]

The following error(s) occurred while attempting to access the FBX file:

File version not supported by this plug-in, or the file is corrupted.


Any idea how to fix this? I'm using Maya 2018 Update 3 on Windows 10 if that makes any difference.

So. I wanted to install Bridge Live link to ue4. But my UE4 is not from epic games launcher. I downloaded from Github. So.. anyone having this kind of problem?

Transparency in Paint Layers turns black & other weird stuff

I've recently started working with Quixel and find myself having to figure out what went wrong more than I actually get to use it.. The two big things that seriously delay me getting anywhere with my texturing is A. painting color layers have their transparency turned black once I exit painting mode, and B. entire painting layers seem to just vanish with no discernible reason.

I'll try to break down what I'm doing:
- Import a base albedo map that I want to add details to via painting layers
- Add a new painting layer on the albedo category
- activate painting mode and start painting small details on top of the base map
- deactivate painting mode when I'm happy with the result
- suddenly transparency is converted to full black, cannot see base map anymore, like so:


Am I misunderstanding what Color Painting is supposed to be used for and is this simply how those layers work? Or is there something wrong with the workflow that causes this to happen? What can I do different?

The second part is really not that easy to explain as I have absolutely no idea whats causing it. I finished my work on a painting layer yesterday and was very satisfied with the result. Did some small touch ups in Photoshop, saved the .psd and went to bed. Today, when I opened it, everything looked fine, the changes in Photoshop carried over to 3do with no problem. So I added a new painting layer to continue, painted in some details (see above) and as soon as I deactivated painting mode and the new layer's transparency turned black, this older layer turned black in a similar manner - but now *everything* was black and not just the transparency, the whites and browns I used were completely gone. The layer was still in the list of layers, it was just empty save for the parts that were supposed to be masked (so the mask layer got inverted too somehow??)

I immediately closed the project without saving and thankfully the old psd is still there, but I'm rather hesitant to try any of that again now.

Does anybody know what the heck is going on here and how I can prevent it?

Hi all!

Before you ask I have contacted support no reply of yet, but im wondering if I am meant to receive an email with registration instructions all I have so far is purchase confirmation! The other thing I notice which is a bit odd is the quixel website seems to be having some issues.
